W1YU Net Report for 30 AUG 2016

August 31, 2016

Good morning W1YU friends,

Thanks to all who took time to check into the W1YU net last night on the W1WPD Repeater 442.500 + 073 DCS (Echolink/IRLP NEW-ENG Conference Node),

We had 6 check-ins this week….WA6SFY, N1ATB, AA6E, N7GSG, W1YSM, & N3NFP.  AB1DQ was NCS.

Topic of the week:

As we have been discussing and promoting over the past several weeks, the Yale Radio Club is going to be hosting back to back presentations at the upcoming New England ARRL Conference in Boxboro. So our topic tonight is all about hamfests. Do you regularly attend hamfests? Do you plan on attending Boxboro? What are your favorite hamfests? Also, what do you like the most and the least about the hamfest experience?

Responses:

  • Regularly attend hamfests: 5/7
  • Planning on attending Boxboro: 4/7
  • Favorite hamfests: Dayton, NEARFest, Nutmeg & Southington
  • Hamfest experience LIKES: Spending a whole weekend away with radios, side trips to Wright Patterson at Dayton, seeing vintage gear at the flea markets, VE sessions, and attending workshops & hearing speakers
  • Hamfest experience DISLIKES: Long drives and parking costs and other hams disparage your asking prices at the fleas
